Dear Friends,
Once again I am bicycling and raising money for The Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society. This time I am doing a 55 mile mountain bike ride
in Moab, Utah as part of the Fat Tire Mountain Bike Festival on
November 1.
As you probably know I have a personal interest in leukemia since my
own diagnosis with Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML in March, 1992. In
February, 1993 I had a Bone Marrow Transplant, which makes this year
the tenth anniversary of my transplant. Since 1994, I along with Barb
"GrannyBarb" Lackritz, another leukemia survivor, have built a web
site on leukemia and bone marrow transplants (you can visit it at: http://www.acor.org/leukemia)
with Barb "GrannyBarb" Lackritz, another leukemia survivor.
Our web site has recently been mentioned favorably by both the Wall
Street Journal and the prestigious medical journal The Lancet. Barb
was also the author of a highly recommended book, called Adult
Leukemia and was a tireless crusader for better leukemia
treatment. Barb passed away from complications of leukemia treatment
on June 6, 2003. She had been battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
(CLL) since 1989. I am doing this ride in her memory.
Two years ago, when I did my first Team in Training fundraiser, I
raised over $8500. This time, my personal goal is to raise $10,000
for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help continue finding
treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Checks (made payable to "The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society") can be
given or mailed to me or you can contribute by credit card. If you
have questions please feel free to call me at (512) 326-4405 or e-mail
to flataua@acm.org. I will also
have updates on my web site at
http://www.acor.org/leukemia/tnt-2003.html.
Thanks for your contributions and support.
